Home Alone The Movie : Bad story, amazing delivery
One of our favorite all time Xmas movie Home Alone was released in 1990. This movie was a blockbuster (Commercial success). Most uninformed armchair critics always claim that A GOOD STORY should be the back bone of a successful movie. This movie like many others proves them wrong.
When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O'Hara) makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two con men (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home. (Synopsis from IMDB).
The story is so stupid, it beggars belief how the producers got funding for the project. The setting for the film was a lavish family home. But the gags (Both verbal and visual) were so stupid they were hilarious. The movie was very serious in not taking itself seriously. They did not have to rationalise the jokes, they just did it.
As you enjoy this timeless movie, realise that a BAD story, does not mean you will have a Bad movie. Your delivery of the movie plays a MAJOR role in commercialization.
